about kate
I was often asked if I did or when I was going to start doing stand-up. Apparently, I say wryly funny and/or interesting things. I’ve been compared to Kathy Griffin … but nicer, and cuter.
While I have no fear of the stage — I’m a performing flutist and I’ve been an actor and public speaker — that’s just not the biz for me. So instead you get the benefit of my wit and sarcasm via the written word. Which is fine, because that means I can obsess over and revise the material repeatedly before I impress you with it.
Some other tidbits about me:
- Native cheesehead of Polish and German stock; born on the shore of Lake Michigan in Milwaukee, grew up in the ‘burb of West Allis, went to school in Madison, now living in Atlanta (while the rest of my immediate family members reside in Phoenix).
- I’m the quiet one in my family. No, really. Seriously.
- Leo sun, Scorpio moon, Cancer rising. For those of you that that means something to, you’ll appreciate my rule of “Drama for entertainment value only.”
- INFJ, on the verge of ISFJ.
- Fag-hag since I was 4, or thereabouts.
- Often mistaken for a 30-something vegetarian lesbian. I take it as a compliment.
- I don’t color my hair to hide the grey; I color it to cover the brown. Although not a natural redhead, I have the personality of one.
- Like the good folks at The Vortex Bar & Grill, I believe that stupidity should be painful.
- I possess a vocabulary and I’m not afraid to use it.
- I go out of my way to not screw people over. I only use my powers for good.
- I drive a manual transmission by choice. Don’t be an idiot, and get out of my way.
- I like food. I like beer/wine/cocktails. And I could easily indulge in too much of any if I wasn’t conscious of that fact.
Since I work in communication and depend on copyright for a living, I feel obligated to tell you that I’ve borrowed the name of this blog from an unfortunate proofing incident with a client many years ago.
